Bukavu: holding a rallying workshop between state actors, civil society and journalists for the empowerment of LBQ women

A rallying workshop with state actors, society actors, the media and technical partners has just been held in Bukavu, capital of South Kivu, to empower the rights of LBQ women in terms of freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, association and access to civic space.

This workshop, organized from July 17 to 18, 2023 in the meeting room of the Belvedere Hotel in Bukavu, aimed to promote access to civic space as a right for LBQ women but also to foster a climate of tolerance and acceptance of these women in society and in the local community.

These two days were devoted to exchanges between the guests on gender plurality and diversity, on the fundamental rights of LBQ women for their free access to the rights of association, peaceful assembly and their development activities.

The workshop was attended by Congolese judicial police officers, grassroots community leaders from each commune in the city of Bukavu, human rights activists and local media personnel. After two days of discussions, the workshop ended with a commitment from each guest to want to intervene in the event of violations of the rights of LBQ women in the exercise of their fundamental rights.

On this occasion, community police cell leaders in the town of Ibanda and Kadutu shared with the RSM team an emergency call number of the Congolese national police south kivu section that should be contacted in the event of attacks or arbitrary arrest of a member of this community in the city of Bukavu
